1. Legal Tonnage Limits in the Republic of Moldova (Roads Law no. 509/1995)

Under Annex no. 3 to Roads Law no. 509/1995 and HG no. 1073/2007, the maximum authorized total mass (MTMA) for single vehicles is:

• 2-axle vehicles: Maximum 18.0 tonnes.
• 3-axle vehicles (6×4 / 6×2): Maximum 26.0 tonnes (provided the drive axle is fitted with twin wheels and air suspension, or a suspension recognized as equivalent).
• 4-axle vehicles (8×4): Maximum 32.0 tonnes (with two steering axles and approved suspension).
• Vehicle combinations (tractor unit + 5-axle semi-trailer): Maximum 40.0 tonnes.

2. How ANTA’s WIM Systems Work and How to Avoid Penalties

Dynamic sensors installed on national roads (M1, M5, R1, R3) automatically record speed, license plate number, and the load on each axle in real time, without stopping the vehicle. Exceeding the limits automatically triggers the issuance of infringement notices and additional road-usage fees.
